Marriage on a Mission

We aren’t good at asking for help. But the truth is, we need some. We’re currently assembling a series of teams to help us launch our newest book, “Your Marriage, God’s Mission–Discovering Your Spiritual Purpose as a Couple” which will be released on October 24, 2017. So, we’re asking. Help?

Social Media Launch Team: This involves sharing quotes, images, and other information about the book on your social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and/or Instagram. We give you the items to share. All you have to do is share them. Simple.

Book Launch Prayer Team: This involves praying for the book’s release for 30 days. We provide you with a day-by-day prayer guide. Super easy. Extremely powerful.

Book Review Team: This involves pre-ordering a copy of the book on Amazon ($10.57) or ChristianBook.com ($11.99) reading it, and posting a one, two, or three-sentence review on either or both sites. The review must be posted within 20-30 days after you receive your copy. (P.S. ALL funds we receive from sales go back into the ministry. We keep nothing.)

Plans to embark on another marriage mission trip are underway. We don’t know exactly where we’re going, but God does. Our decade in Florida has come to an end. God is moving us back to the west…Arizona to be exact. From the ocean to the desert. What adventures await! We would appreciate your prayers as we begin the 2,150 mile drive in a U-Haul this weekend and get settled into a new season of ministry.

“I’ve commanded you, haven’t I? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be fearful or discouraged, because the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

The conclusion of our 14th marriage mission trip is upon us. 4,140 miles crossing through fifteen different states in twenty-eight days. As the sun sets, our praises rise. 

I (Penny) took the world’s longest hot shower this morning. (Actually, it was well past noon). Today is a day of hiding out. Sleeping in, longer time spent with God, reflective conversation between us, no schedule, no people, no ministry. Early on in our mission to reconcile broken marriages, we learned that we had to have a day of hiding along the way. A day to recharge, regroup, refill, and refuel. These things are necessary in order to make sure we are allowing God the time He needs to quiet us and speak to our own hearts. There are changes He wants to make there; empty places that need to be filled.

During His earthly ministry, Jesus modeled the beauty of hiding. The Word says He often retreated to lonely places to pray (Luke 5:16). Sometimes I wonder if He ever went back into the carpentry shop and processed His experiences through crafting something with His own hands. I have found that something sacred happens (even in a hotel room) when I take out my paintbrushes and spend time creativing something in the quiet space of being alone with God. 

Have you had a day of hiding lately? Our world is not condusive to this practice. It takes intention to carve out and set up some margin around your life, but the benefits will surpass your comprehension.

Before we got back on the road to our next stop, we parking-lot-prayed with a dear woman who loves the Lord and loves on us whenever we intersect in her home state if Illinois. Although our “formal” engagements are always meaningful, divine appointments of prayer sandwiched in between those events fuels our spiritual tank.

God has His way of grabbing our attention as we journey toward our first engagement in Jugville, Michigan. 

He reminds us that He is in control.

He reminds of us His grace.

He reminds us to pray for guidance and direction.

And He reminds us that we are His hands in the harvest of marriages.

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9

It all began with prayer. Our first marriage mission trip was the fall of 2006. The night before we left, our dear friends came to pray over us. And here we are praying together again as we begin our 10th year on the road. Albeit a different state and a different mission, the friendship remains and the prayers ascend. Only God. So good.

We’re preparing to hit the road again this fall. Our mission? To reconcile and strengthen marriages. This trip will take place from September 4th-October 2nd and cover approximately 4,000 miles of the eastern U.S. Although we have pre-set engagements at various churches, we’re reminded once again that what happens in between those stops is also of utmost importance to God. There are many separated and hurting spouses in need of hope and encouragement. Please take a moment to pray for those who are longing for reconciliation. “ Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'” Matthew 19:26
