Day 20 – Break the Pitcher, Blow the Trumpet!
Oftentimes during our missions, friends, ministry partners, and/or fellow so-journers send us some much-needed fuel for the Fire. This was sent by a woman who is all three (and more). She had NO idea that at the moment we received her e-mail, we had JUST pulled off the road to refill our lamps with oil.
“The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon.” Judges 7:20
“Gideon ordered h
is men to do two things: covering up a torch in an earthen pitcher, he bade them, at an appointed signal, break the pitcher and let the light shine, and then sound with the trumpet, crying, ‘The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon! The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon!’ This is precisely what all Christians must do. First, you must shine; break the pitcher which conceals your light; throw aside the bushel which has been hiding your candle, and shine. Let your light shine before men; let your good works be such, that when men look upon you, they shall know that you have been with Jesus. Then there must be the sound, the blowing of the trumpet. There must be active exertions for the ingathering of sinners by proclaiming Christ crucified. Take the gospel to them; carry it to their door; put it in their way; do not suffer them to escape it; blow the trumpet right against their ears.” ~ Charles Spurgeon
Break the pitcher! Let His light shine! Sound the trumpet! Oh, may they know we have been with Jesus!

Day 19 – Turning the Tables
It happens every time. God knows exactly when we’re totally tapped out…caving in…exhausted…spent. That’s the perfect point at which He turns the tables on us…to receive. Last night, He did it again, surrounding us with a group of prayerful strangers who, in a matter of moments, became caring friends.
“…Pray for each other so that you may be healed.” James 5:16 NLT

Day 17 – Heal Our Land
Heavenly Father, we cry out for healing across our nation. Shootings in Washington DC…stabbings in Texas…floods in Colorado…all far too much for our humanity to bear. We plead for justice, we pray for healing, we cry out for deliverance and a mighty awakening. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Day 15 – Clean
…And she broke wide open, right there in the midst of us.
“Jesus, I want to come back to You! I’ve been far away and I’ve sinned against You. Please forgive me and let me come back home!”
As the woman in our prayer circle cried out to God, I flashed back on a scene from my own life, many years ago. Oh, the healing grace of our Lord and Savior who cleanses ALL our sins and washes us…
Clean.

Day 12 – Hiding the Word
“As a goal for this year, I’m going to memorize the Book of 1John.”
“Seriously?” I asked Clint, rather surprised.
“Seriously.” he answered.
Ever since Clint shared this desire with me, I’ve watched and prayed as he has taken two verses at a time and written them out repeatedly on sheets of lined paper. I hear him saying the verses out loud, at times, and I’ve noticed that there’s a special quiet place he goes to in his mind when he’s memorizing them. He’s been at it for month’s.
It’s been fascinating to observe the methods by which Clint is determined to hide 105 verses in his heart. More than memorizing and reciting the verses, however, what I’ve noticed is that the Word is coming out in everything he does, especially when facing a problem or praying over someone in need. He is hiding God’s Word in his heart, but it’s leaking out all over…and it’s a beautiful thing.

Day 10 – So Divine
There are things that happen on these missions that are extraordinarily divine. This is just one of several that must be shared, in brief.
On the way through Chattanooga a dear friend wanted to get a copy of one of the journals that we’ve made and carry with us on the road. She said she had someone special to give it to. Fast forward to our time teaching at a retreat in Jugville, MI last weekend. A pastor and his wife who were attending the retreat sat down next to us one night and we started talking. They mentioned having a daughter in Chattanooga, so we asked if she might know our friends at the Chattanooga House of Prayer. Immediately, the wife blurted out our friend’s name! Long story short, imagine the SHOCK and AWE on all our faces when we discovered that not only did our friend and their daughter know each other, but the journal we’d left behind in Chattanooga was to be given to their daughter by our friend. The shock reverberated all the way from Chattanooga to Michigan and back again.
“Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done.” Psalm 105:1
